A holistic path for body and mind.
Our Philosophy
The Shaolin arts offer a holistic path for body and mind. It is important to us to teach a well-grounded approach across the various disciplines, one that adapts to each individual. Whether young or old, athletic or not, healthy or facing challenges – these practices are rooted in centuries-old teachings while being aligned with the needs of modern life.
The essence of the Shaolin tradition is a path that goes far beyond the spectacular. It is a path that leads us back to ourselves. Above all, it is one thing: presence. Presence with ourselves and with our surroundings. Chan means meditation. Everything is meditation. From silent sitting to dynamic movements within Kung Fu practice. By cultivating this unity of body and mind, we develop a state that we increasingly rediscover even in the busyness of everyday life. We practice Shaolin Kung Fu not only during training sessions, but throughout the entire day. Thus, it becomes the foundation for a healthy and contented life.
The Name Shaolin Chan Arts
Chan means meditation. We chose this name because, across the various disciplines, we aim to cultivate an inner freedom that naturally flows into our lived experience. We cultivate the two wings of Buddhism – compassion and wisdom – and seek to develop qualities such as gentleness and strength, courage, balance and natural spontaneity.
We are particularly committed to interconnection of the various arts. Depending on interest, age, environment, or biology, people often naturally gravitate toward certain practices. This is good and valuable. However, from our point of view, it is precisely the mixture of calm practices such as seated meditation, slow movements like Qi Gong, and faster, more powerful techniques from Sanda and Kung Fu, combined with philosophical reflection, that makes the Shaolin arts so effective overall.
Shaolin Chan Arts conveys an effective and pragmatic approach to practice and daily life, supporting a healthy and contented way of living.
