Shaolin Arts
Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu, meditation, Qi Gong, Taijiquan and more. A holistic path for the development of body and mind.
Shaolin Arts
Shaolin Kung Fu
We teach traditional Shaolin Kung Fu as it has been practiced for centuries in the famous Shaolin Monastery in China. The roots of this martial art reach back to Bodhidharma, the founder of Chan Buddhism. Originally developed as a way for monks to strengthen their bodies and focus their minds, over time it evolved into a comprehensive system of character building, physical training and self-defence, one of the oldest known martial arts.
Shaolin Kung Fu is far more than physical training. It is a path of development in which body, mind, and attitude are refined together. Practitioners gain strength and flexibility, their concentration increases and they find more and more inner peace and serenity in everyday life.
Meditation & Philosophy
Chan meditation is the Chinese predecessor of the later Zen tradition and originates in the Shaolin Monastery. Chan refers to immediate presence. Meditation is therefore rather a state of being than an activity or belief. It is a lived experience that can be cultivated in any moment of the day. The path of meditation involves exploring one's own mind and is a home within us that we can connect to at any time.
This path includes a systematic approach for both beginners and experienced meditators. As a method without methods, it is a pragmatic and undogmatic approach for people of different orientations. We teach a philosophical approach that also focuses on direct application in everyday life.
Qi Gong
Qi Gong is a comprehensive system of movement, breathing, and mental focus that strengthens both body and mind. The term translates to ‘energy work’, pointing to the heart of the practice: sensing and guiding subtle internal energy. This promotes a healthy body and a clear mind. The exercises improve coordination and stability, have a balancing effect on the mind and emotions, support organ function and strengthen both the immune system and the body's self-healing powers.
Qi Gong supports health maintenance, healing, and rehabilitation after stress or injury. It can be practiced on its own or as a complement to Shaolin Kung Fu.
Beyond its physical benefits, Qi Gong cultivates awareness, inner strength, and vitality. It integrates movement with mindfulness and brings both calm and energy into daily life.
Sanda
Sanda (also known as Chinese kickboxing) is the modern full-contact discipline that evolved from traditional Chinese martial arts. In addition to kicks and punches, it includes throws, sweeps, and counter techniques, making it a versatile and dynamic martial art. Sanda practitioners are especially known for their fast and skillful combat maneuvers.
Foundation training includes coordination, conditioning, strength, technique, and application. Beyond competition, the focus lies on mindful emotional regulation and developing control of body and mind. Sanda can be practiced as a competitive sport or as a form of lifelong fitness.
A respectful and trusting environment forms the basis of the training. Each person chooses whether their focus lies more on foundational skills or on fighting aspects — without external pressure and with mutual respect.
Unless otherwise specified, our retreats and workshops emphasize more on awareness and body development rather than sparring and combat situations.
Taijiquan
Taijiquan is a comprehensive system for the holistic development of body and mind. It weaves health practices, meditative elements, and self-defense into a harmonious movement art. As an internal martial art, Taijiquan emphasizes strength through relaxation: from soft, flowing movements arise natural power, inner calm, and centered presence.
The traditional forms contain a multitude of hidden self-defense applications and cultivate presence in both body and mind, fostering external and internal stability.
We teach both the Yang style and the Chen style of Taijiquan.
The Yang style is the most widespread worldwide and is known for its accessible entry point. The Chen style is considered the original form and is characterized by a powerful blend of soft, spiral movements and explosive techniques — rooted, dynamic, and expressive.
Other Arts
In addition to the classical disciplines, we also explore arts such as archery, academic study, tea culture, and calligraphy. Each serves as a way to train the mind and cultivate a meditative state that can be integrated into everyday life. Elements of these arts are included in our seminars and retreats.
Sangha & Community
A Sangha is a community of practitioners. We create spaces in which people from diverse backgrounds can immerse themselves in the practice of the Shaolin arts — with openness, without rigid rules, and with a focus on everyday integration. What unites us is the shared passion for Kung Fu, meditation, Qi Gong, and other disciplines within a supportive and kindhearted environment. We warmly welcome you to be part of it.
