We are preparing the English version of the Shaolin Foundation Path and will publish it here soon.
If you have not started yet, we recommend beginning with the free Shaolin Practice Lesson — a great first step into the Shaolin arts.
HomeShaolin Kung Fu is a holistic path for body and mind.
Through movement, breath, meditation, and mindful practice, presence, focus, and inner strength grow step by step—not only in training, but in everyday life too.
The essence of the Shaolin tradition reaches far beyond the spectacular. It leads us back to ourselves: to clarity, calm, and a deeper connection between body and mind.
Every movement becomes meditation in action.
That is how a foundation emerges—one that goes far beyond fitness alone.
In this 12-week programme you learn the traditional foundations of the Shaolin arts—step by step, following a clear training structure aligned with traditional Shaolin practice.
You develop a stable foundation in:
Stances, kicks, movement sequences, and power development
Transitions, power transmission, spiral force, and conscious control
First form, application, and insights into combat training
Breathing, body awareness, and inner orientation
Stillness, focus, presence, and foundations of Buddhist practice
History, Yin & Yang, and principles for everyday life
Along the way you learn not only the outer form of the movements, but gain an initial understanding of the principles behind them.
The course helps you build a clean, well-founded base—whether you are starting fresh or already bring martial arts experience.

Learning online is easy. Building a regular practice is often much harder.
Especially in the Shaolin arts, having videos alone is usually not enough. You need rhythm, repetition, orientation—and room for questions, experience, and integration.
That is why the Shaolin Foundation Path combines independent practice with a guided framework. You move through the course week by week, practise at home at your own pace, and are part of a shared 12-week path at the same time.
This does not create extra pressure, but a clear, supportive path that helps you stay consistent and deepen your practice step by step.

The Shaolin Foundation Path is for people looking for a holistic approach to the Shaolin arts.
You do not need prior experience and do not need to be especially fit or mobile. What matters more is curiosity, openness, and a willingness to practise regularly and step onto this path gradually.
This course is a good fit for you if you:
The course is not a good fit if you:
Sustainable, deep practice emerges when the principles behind the movements are understood and truly embodied.
In the Shaolin arts, mastery begins with the foundation. Advanced practitioners, too, return to the basics again and again.
Shaolin Chan Arts connects traditional Shaolin practice with a contemporary approach to body, mind, and daily life. At the centre are Kung Fu, Qi Gong, meditation, Chan, and other Shaolin arts—not as separate disciplines, but as one connected path of practice.
On the Shaolin Foundation Path, Shi Yong Dao guides you. He has practised martial arts since childhood, travels regularly to Shaolin, and brings more than 15 years of teaching experience in Shaolin Kung Fu, Sanda, and Taijiquan. His experience spans traditional practice, competition, and guiding people on their own training journey.

The free Shaolin trial lesson gives you a taste of how we teach and of the practice of Kung Fu, Qi Gong, and meditation.

No. The course is structured so you can start without prior knowledge. Movements are explained and demonstrated step by step. If you already train, you can use the material to refine fundamentals and go deeper into the details.
No. You should be willing to practise regularly and treat your body with care. Everyone trains at their own pace and intensity.
The Foundation Path is designed to fit well into a normal everyday routine. The self-study modules form the main part. Ideally, you work through the matching module each week. You can plan on about 60 minutes for this. That way, you deepen the content step by step and can practice the exercises independently. In addition, you receive a training plan from which you can choose based on your preferences and available time. Our recommendation is about two training sessions per week. You can also do less when you have little time — or more if you want to go deeper. The Foundation Path is complemented by live guidance: an online kick-off, three live classes, and a Q&A session. There are also small prompts, opportunities for exchange, and occasional challenges to help you stay on track. If you have less time at some point, that is not a problem. You can catch up on modules at any time and go through the Foundation Path at your own pace. Your access to all content remains unlimited.
The live sessions take place on the following dates from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.: Mon 19 October (Kick-Off) Mon 9 November Mon 30 November (Q&A) Mon 14 December Mon 4 January Each live session is recorded and will be available throughout the full 12 weeks: if you cannot attend live, that is not a problem. You also have access to the WhatsApp group at any time for questions.
You can catch up on the content and work through it at your own pace, since the self-study modules remain available to you indefinitely. The shared weekly rhythm helps you stay consistent, but the course is not meant to add extra pressure.
Yes. The clear structure also helps experienced practitioners: you can work on precision, posture, and subtler movement qualities, and benefit from feedback, challenges, and training together.
Comfortable clothing and some room to move are all you need—ideally about 2 × 2 metres of space; alternatively, the footprint of a yoga mat is enough. Optionally you can lay out a mat for floor exercises and stretches. For meditation we also recommend a meditation cushion; if a chair is more comfortable for you, you can of course use that instead. For the live sessions it helps to have your camera on so you can receive personal feedback if needed.
All self-study modules and PDFs remain available to you without limit. You can continue learning and revisiting at your own pace even after the 12 weeks. Here you will find everything you need to practise and deepen your training. Recordings of the live Zoom sessions remain available to you until the end of the 12-week course period.
It's very important to us that you're happy with your learning path. If the course isn't right for you, let us know within 14 days of the course start and we'll refund the full course price.
Yes. This course gives you everything you need for a solid entry. Afterwards you can continue with follow-on courses and/or our weekly live online training.
